On Saturday, April 13, ambassadors and diplomats from 25 nations arrived in Varanasi, one of India's oldest pilgrimage sites in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had requested to uphold and honour India's rich spiritual and cultural tradition as part of 'Prayas: Dharohar Kashi Ki' and in the spirit of 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi'—a push for advancement combined with the preservation of heritage and cultural legacies.
The Indian Minorities Foundation (IMF) organised the mega event, which not only celebrated the country's roots but also promoted Varanasi's traditional handicrafts and handlooms.
Several envoys and diplomats attended the two-day event, including Gautemala's ambassador to India, Omar Lisandro Castaneda Solares; Jamaica's ambassador, HE Jason KM Hall; the Moroccan Embassy counsellor, Said Hijri; the Mauritian High Commissioner to India; and the Royal Thai Embassy counsellor, Kanokporn Kunnawattana.
Sources state that on Sunday, April 14, a massive fashion display will be held at Varanasi's Namo Ghat to encourage the expansion and commerce of the Banarasi saree business. Distinguished fashion models will walk the ramp dressed in Manish Malhotra's signature Banarasi sarees.
