During an interaction with intellectuals in Gujarat's Rajkot city today, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed optimism about India's permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. He stated that hard work is required to attain the desired position in the world peace body.
At present, Russia, China, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom are the five permanent members of the Security Council.
According to Jaishankar, international momentum is currently in favor of India's push for a permanent seat. There is a widespread perception that the United Nations has diminished. The UN was at a stalemate over the Ukraine conflict, and there was no agreement on Gaza. He said he believes that as this sentiment grows, our prospects of obtaining a permanent seat will increase.
