In a recent interview, India's Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur, stated that the government is confident of gaining hosting rights for the 2036 Olympic Games and will also bid for the 2030 Youth Olympic Games. India has never hosted an Olympics in the past, but the country hosted several international and multi-sport events.
The minister stated that the moment has come for the country to step up on the international sporting stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions India becoming an international sports hub by 2036, with the nation's sports sector valued at Rs. 100,000 crores in the coming years.
