Shubham Narwal, the son of a woman farm laborer, is poised to become the first Navy officer from his village in Rajasthan. His journey to the National Defence Academy (NDA) was fraught with challenges, particularly after he lost his father to cancer in 2015. His mother supported the family by working as an MGNREGA farm laborer, earning barely Rs 220 per day.

He mentioned that he hails from a village in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, a region known as the land of soldiers due to the large number of young people who have joined the armed forces. However, he would become the first Navy officer from his village, a fact he shared in an interview with Major General Yash Mor (Retd), which was posted on social media.

Shubham credited his mother as his greatest inspiration. He explained that she worked tirelessly, earning Rs 220 per day as an MGNREGA worker, and after completing 100 days of work, she received only Rs 22,000. To make ends meet for their family of five, his mother took on additional work in other people's fields. He also mentioned having three sisters, two of whom his mother managed to get married. The family's two acres of land are not supplied with water, rendering them largely unproductive, which forces his mother to continue working as a farm laborer.

Despite financial constraints, Shubham was determined to pursue his dream. Unable to afford the Rs 3,000 cost of SSB coaching, he found a more affordable online course for guidance. He worked on improving his personality and studied diligently. Without money for mobile data, he couldn't attend live classes and instead relied on recorded sessions. He completed the NCERT syllabus and took mock tests to hone his exam timing, thoroughly preparing in subjects like physics, math, and geography.

Shubham's story exemplifies resilience and the power of inspiration from one's family, showcasing how dedication can overcome even the most formidable challenges.
