In a groundbreaking development, Pristyn Care, in collaboration with Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, has performed the world’s first live bariatric surgery using the Apple Vision Pro, an augmented reality (AR) device launched by the tech giant last year. This surgical feat represents a momentous stride in the assimilation of cutting-edge technology into surgical methodologies. It included a sleeve gastric bypass and a Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedure.

Dr. Mohit Bhandari of Pristyn Care conducted the surgery in New Delhi on a 45-year-old patient weighing 155 kg who suffered from obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure. The procedure lasted 40 minutes and took place on Friday, May 17.

The Apple Vision Pro provided a highly immersive and interactive 3D environment, enabling Dr. Bhandari and his team to see intricate anatomical structures in unprecedented detail. This advanced visualization technology facilitated enhanced precision, promising better outcomes for patients undergoing complex procedures.

Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, co-founder of Pristyn Care, noted that the successful integration of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery marked a significant milestone in their journey towards revolutionizing surgical procedures. He expressed pride in being at the forefront of this technological advancement, which he believes will elevate precision, enhance outcomes, and establish new paradigms within the healthcare sphere.

This recent accomplishment adds to a growing list of medical applications for the Apple Vision Pro headset. Recent reports have highlighted its use in laparoscopic surgery in Chennai, the enhancement of shoulder arthroscopy in Brazil, and the performance of major spine surgeries in the UK.
